Brief
Middlesbrough Council needed an agency to create new company names and a brand that reflected the company's aims of intervening in the local housing market by providing affordable homes for sale or rent. The company would fill gaps in the market and provide a unique option without competing with larger housing companies.
Approach
We proposed a wide range of company names to the stakeholders. Once the name was agreed upon, we applied our brand design processes to create some initial ideas and early visuals.
Services
Logo design, Branding design and icon/illustration design
This project was created during my time at VIA Creative
Idea generation and development
We submitted several ideas for the new logo which were narrowed down to the final choices. The concepts included simple M logos, purely typographic designs in a custom serif font, and some slightly more abstract ideas depicting an M.
Below are some examples of the brand applied to hoardings, flags and the brand styleguide
Brand Development and Mission Statement
Early on in the project, we establish the goals and mission statement that would go on to define the brand and our process.
In the UK, there has always been a limited supply of social housing. So Mhomes aimed to build new affordable housing, instead of relying on private firms. As these firms usually build houses aimed at wealthier middle class people. Mhomes would fulfil this need by redeveloping unused brownfield sites within the centre of the town.
Our goal was to create a brand that not only stood out in the market but also resonated with our target audience. We received positive feedback from stakeholders and potential customers.
We also began designing some illustrated characters that would be used as part of the print and online presence. The characters would need to appear friendly and reflect the wide audience the housing would be built for.
Brand Styleguide
We created a comprehensive brand styleguide that included the logo, brand colours, typography, and messaging guidelines. These elements could be applied to various marketing materials, such as billboards, leaflets, social media graphics. Along with assets used for the housing developments such as hoardings and flags.
