Studio 109

A new the brand, logo and website for a creative co-working space in Middlesbrough.

Brief

Studio 109 is Middlesbrough's newest creative co-working space. The space is the converted, 100 year old Parish Hall of the nearby St. John's Church and fabricated with Dorman Long steel, the foundation of many iconic buildings built in Teesside. The brand would need to reflect the values of a warm, friendly, down-to-earth space. The building offers tenants an alternative to over priced, clinical looking office buildings and a vibrant, community space to encourage collaboration

Approach

While looking at other similar spaces in the area we found a large amount of these had fairly similar brand styles. The Studio 109 logo would reflect the location and heritage, as the offices were based in a church hall from 1920s.

Concepts ranged from abstract logos to purely typogaphical versions. We went in this direction that had a early 20th century art deco influence.

Core Values and Mission Statement

Early on in the project, we establish the goals and mission statement that would go on to define the brand and the process. In the area, there were several coworking spaces that weren’t versatile or encouraged customers to stay long term. Studio 109 would be aimed at freelancers and small business owners, while encouraging collaboration and creativity.

The new space would be located in a building initially built for use as a community hall for the nearby church. So while developing the logo and brand, we leant into the early 20th century or art deco aesthetic. But also needed the logo to feel modern.

Brand Development

Once the logo and brand had been confirmed, I designed a wide range of marketing material. A pattern was created that could be used throughout the promotion material, and a suite of bespoke icons designed to reflect the various internal tenants and businesses. With new building signage being added to establish a visual presence for the studio,

The branding helped establish a look and feel for the building interior that has developed into a vibrant, unique and hidden gem of a creative space in the heart of Middlesbrough.

Web Design and Development

Extensive wireframes were created to help shape the structure of the new Studio 109 website. Utilising the colour palette from the branding, the new colour scheme helped establish a look and feel. The website would also include a booking system for the meeting rooms and photography studio. Which would show a calendar view with the available and booked slots.
